Women in Construction Spotlight: Amanda Schieffer

L. Keeley is proud to be working on not only the largest project in company history, but a monumental project for our community here in St. Louis. Amanda Schieffer, Oiler for the Civil Group, is one of the many crew members pouring their time and energy into exceeding expectations and providing a safe, quality end product for our customer. Her grit, dedication, and passion for the industry are unmatched.

Since joining the L. Keeley family, Amanda has loved every second of her journey. Her team inspires her to be a better Keeley’n and has seen firsthand the family culture that L. Keeley prides itself on. Everyone has each other’s backs and wants to help others succeed. Even though she loves her team and her work, Amanda knows just how tough it can be to work in a male-dominated industry. Throughout her career, she has learned to go into any job with strong shoulders and to remind herself why she is there. That motivation has gotten her to where she is today. If Amanda could give one piece of advice to women starting out in the industry, it would be:

“Always keep your end goal in mind and leave your work life at work and your home life at home.”

Amanda has wanted to join the construction industry since she was a child. She grew up watching her mom go through the Operator Apprenticeship Program with the local 513. She helped her mom study and realized that construction was a career path she wanted to pursue as well. Seeing her mom’s career journey firsthand, Amanda has learned a lot of lessons. For her, the most important lesson she has learned is:

“Always be honest with everyone, especially the foremen and journeymen on your team. If you don’t feel comfortable with something, tell them.”

Amanda’s construction journey is just getting started and she can’t wait to continue growing and advancing her career. She is most excited to continue learning how to operate the equipment and eventually become an Operator. She is excited to continue enjoying life and looks forward to making L. Keeley her career destination. When asked what her favorite thing about being a Keeley’n is, she said:

“The empowerment I get from my crew members and leaders. I haven’t experienced anything like it on any other job.”

Amanda, thank you for your dedication to your team and project. We can’t wait to watch you continue to grow and become the Keeley’n you are meant to be!
